Founded in 1971 McIntyre Ski Area was developed by the City of Manchester and opened in 1971 as a small ski hill with two double chairlifts, a rope tow, and a new lodge, intended to give local residents a place to ski close to home. It was named after T. Edward McIntyre, a key figure in the city’s Parks & Recreation Department. In 1978, the McIntyre Ski School was formed to focus on teaching beginners, and a retail ski shop followed in 1992. The city leased the ski area’s operations in 2009 to McIntyre Ski School, Inc. (now McIntyre Ski Area, LLC), which invested in major improvements like new lifts, expanded snowmaking, a larger lodge, and expanded tubing facilities. Over the decades, McIntyre has become a beloved community ski and winter activity destination, known especially for its family-friendly terrain and instructional programs.
